Audio Upload Policy
Last updated: March 11, 2026
This policy governs the uploading, processing, and deletion of audio files on the ToneForge platform. By uploading files, you agree to the terms outlined below.
1. Ownership and Rights
You must own or have obtained all necessary rights, licenses, and permissions for any audio content you upload to ToneForge. By uploading, you represent and warrant that:
- You are the copyright owner or have explicit authorization from the copyright owner.
- The content does not infringe on any third-party intellectual property, privacy, or publicity rights.
- You have the right to grant ToneForge the limited processing license described in our Terms of Service.
ToneForge does not claim ownership of your uploaded content. We only process it to deliver the Service and delete it according to the retention schedule.
2. Supported Formats
ToneForge accepts the following audio file formats:
- WAV — Uncompressed PCM audio (recommended for best quality).
- AIFF — Apple uncompressed audio format.
- FLAC — Lossless compressed audio.
- MP3 — Lossy compressed audio (accepted, but lossless formats yield better mastering results).
3. File Requirements
- Maximum file size: Varies by plan (Free: 50 MB, Pro: 150 MB, Studio: 200 MB).
- Maximum duration: Free: 10 minutes; Pro/Studio: 20 minutes.
- Sample rates: 44.1 kHz, 48 kHz, 88.2 kHz, and 96 kHz are supported.
- Bit depth: 16-bit, 24-bit, and 32-bit float are supported.
- Channels: Mono and stereo files are accepted. Multi-channel/surround audio is not supported.
4. Preflight Validation
Every uploaded file undergoes automated preflight validation before processing begins. Files that fail validation (corrupted headers, unsupported formats, exceeding size limits) are rejected with a clear error message. Rejected files do not count toward your daily usage quota.
5. Automatic Deletion
ToneForge is not a storage service. All uploaded and processed files are automatically and permanently deleted after the retention period:
- Free plan: 1 hour after processing completes.
- Pro plan: 24 hours after processing completes.
- Studio plan: 72 hours after processing completes.
Once files are deleted, they cannot be recovered. You are responsible for downloading your mastered files before the expiry window closes. We send an email notification when your mastered file is ready for download.
6. Download Tokens
Mastered files are delivered via signed, time-limited download tokens. Each token allows a maximum of 5 downloads and expires along with the file retention window. Sharing download links with unauthorized third parties is prohibited.
7. Prohibited Content
You may not upload audio files that:
- Contain illegal content under applicable law.
- Infringe on copyrights or trademarks of third parties.
- Contain malware, executable code, or are designed to exploit system vulnerabilities.
- Are intentionally corrupted or malformed to abuse server resources.
We reserve the right to reject or remove any content that violates this policy without notice.
8. Data Handling
Uploaded files are stored in temporary, access-controlled server storage. Files are encrypted in transit (TLS) and are accessible only by the automated processing pipeline and the file owner. Our staff does not access your audio files unless required for debugging a specific support request with your explicit consent.
